Gender Studies at Lund University hosts the Inaugural Nordic Feminist Theory Workshop 10-11 April 2025.

The Nordic Feminist Theory Workshop is a new transnational collaborative platform to encourage dynamic exchanges among scholars of feminist, queer and gender studies in the Nordic region and beyond. The platform provides a travelling workshop series and network. Focusing on the theme Engaging Gender Research(ers) in Reactionary Times, the workshop in Lund is the first in a series of three workshops between 2025-2027.

– In current times, when questions of gender, sexuality, ethnicity and religion are at the focus of societal debate, we saw the need for establishing a transnational collaborative platform among scholars of feminist, queer and gender studies, says Mia Liinason, initiator and co-organizer of the event together with colleagues at the Universities of Stavanger in Norway and Helsinki in Finland.

The Inaugural Nordic Feminist Theory Workshop brings together internationally renowned keynote speakers and panelists, and early-career researchers, for discussions on the broader cultural and social crisis that has emerged in the resistance from reactionary actors challenging women’s (particularly feminist women), gender and queer people’s rights. Across two days, workshop participants will engage in discussions about the changing conditions for trans, queer feminist, antiracist and decolonial knowledge production in reactionary times.

The inaugural workshop is generously supported by the Social Science Faculty at Lund University and the Conjunctures of Struggle research program.
