The logic of resistance. An intersectional perspective on academic gatekeepers.

Researcher: Irina Schmitt

Abstract:
With the project “The logic of resistance. An intersectional perspective on academic gatekeepers” I analyze ideas about equality and participation at a Swedish university. Which bodies are meant when we speak about gender equality, equal treatment and diversity within university? How is institutional gender equality, equal treatment and diversity work done? Learning from feminist and anti-racist research on higher education and organizations, I have a two-fold approach. On the one hand, I analyze policies on gender equality, equal treatment and diversity for the meanings attached to these words. The other part of the study is based on interviews with academic gatekeepers on their reflections about the work done and the understandings given to it. This study is part of the Department of Gender Studies’ project “An Open Academy? An intersectional perspective on the slow road towards equal opportunities: successful careers, leaky pipelines and patterns of resistance”.
